A Thought From Today's Quiet Time

Today I read Romans 8:6-8, which is "For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

I have always been enamored with celebrities, and I love reading entertainment news. While I was reading this passage, the thought came to mind of celebrities and their charities and humanitarian efforts. According to the Word "... those who are in the flesh cannot please God." Isn't it sad that there are so many people blinded by sin and trying to do "good things"? However, they are not pleasing God at all by their deeds.

John McArthur comments on this passage that "The unbeliever's problem is much deeper than acts of disobedience, which are merely outward manifestations of inner fleshly compulsions. His basic inclinations and orientation toward gratifying himself- however outwardly religious or moral he may appear- are directly hostile to God. Even the good deeds unbelievers perform are not truly a fulfillment of God's law, because they are produced by the flesh, for selfish reasons, and from a heart that is in rebellion."

It's easy to get caught up in admiring what people do whether it be celebrities, respected people in your line of work, etc. But this passage was a good reminder that God looks at the heart, and apart from a relationship with Him, our good deeds are like filthy rags. For me, it really made me stop and think about who I look up to, who my "idols" are, and why. God is not pleased by those in the flesh, and He does not admire their "good deeds". Who do you look up to? Who do you model yourself after? Are they believers in Christ? I had to ask myself these questions this morning, and it's definitely something I need to continually assess, to make sure I'm modeling myself after Christ and not those who do not know Him.

Body Wraps to Lose Inches???

This week I was invited to a fun girls night party that featured "It Works!" body wraps and Beauticontrol makeup. Of course, I'm always interested in makeup stuff, but the body wraps definitely caught my attention! I had heard about them before, and I really wanted to see for myself if this stuff really works!

First of all, it was interesting that you can basically "wrap" any part of your body. The sales lady joked that she really didn't like to do butts, but she would do it if we wanted her too! Okay, no thank you! They claim you'll see results in 45 minutes, you'll keep losing inches for 4 days as your body is being "detoxed", and you will keep the results for 2-6 months.

I decided to get my stomach wrapped, so the lady measured my stomach in 3 different areas and marked where she measured with a marker. Then she put on the wrap, which was a very thin paper covered in a special herbal type mixture that the lady claimed was "like liquid gold." Then, to finish it off, she wrapped over the area with cellophane.

It caused a very warm tingling/burning sensation, and 45 minutes later it's time to measure your inches lost! I "lost" 2 & 3/4 inches. However, that number is skewed somewhat, as it is the sum of the 3 areas she measured. So, at the most in one area I lost 1 & 3/4 inches.

She told us we could sleep in our wraps, so I did, and the husband definitely got a good laugh when I came home wrapped in Saran wrap! One thing they warned about, though, was the possibility of getting something hilariously referred to as "toxic bloat" and to make sure to drink plenty of water to "flush the toxins out."

I can't really determine if it really worked yet, since it's only the 2nd day. I also wished that I had measured myself before going to make sure she didn't inflate my initial measurements.

I will plan to write an update on my results after Day 4.

Where Have I Been?

I absolutely can't believe it is Christmastime already! I have been so, so busy over the past two months, and it's just a preface to a busy year to come!

So here's a quick summary of what we've been up to! Last month I had a rotation at St. Jude Children's Hospital. It was a time consuming rotation, but I learned a ton! I did not have time for much else during the month, so I was grateful to have December off to get things done!

Also last month, I had Career Day to interview for a pharmacist position after I graduate in May. I had 7 interviews in one day! The job search is going great, and I will hopefully have a position nailed down very soon! That's a definite prayer request for us!

So for news about this month: This December is going to hold the record for the most Christmas parties attended! Brian and I have so many fun parties that we've already enjoyed and more coming up! Also, I'm trying to work more this month, and Brian is working hard (as usual) at the company!

We are both looking forward to seeing family in Alabama for Christmas this year. We also have a fun New Year's Day wedding to go to in Louisiana!

That's a brief recap, but hopefully I'll get back to writing more soon!
